This AI Transparency Policy explains when and how The Diet Science uses AI, what data it uses, what you can expect from AI-generated guidance, and what choices you have as a user.
We use AI to support features such as:
24/7 nutrition chat support
meal guidance and food suggestions
habit and routine recommendations
meal log/photo feedback (where provided)
call support with text transcripts (see Section 5)
Important: AI support is designed for general nutrition education and lifestyle support. It is not medical care.
AI Support: Most instant responses in chat (and parts of the call support experience) may be AI-assisted.
Human Support: Where offered, 1:1 consultations are provided by a nutritionist (not a medical doctor and not a dietitian unless explicitly stated).
We aim to make it clear within the Platform when you are interacting with an AI feature versus a human consultation/appointment.
AI can help with:
general nutrition education
meal structure, portion guidance, and practical eating strategies
goal-based routines (energy, digestion support, weight management habits)
guidance aligned with reputable nutrition principles, including Australian Dietary Guidelines–consistent approaches
AI cannot:
diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease
replace your GP, Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), or other clinician
provide emergency support
tell you to start/stop medication or override clinical advice
guarantee outcomes
AI can sometimes be wrong, incomplete, or misunderstand your situation. This is more likely when:
your information is missing/unclear
your case is complex (multiple conditions/medications)
symptoms are severe or persistent
allergy and cross-contamination risks are involved
You should use judgment and verify important decisions—especially for allergies, medication interactions, or medical conditions.
We do not record call audio.
Calls may generate text transcripts for service continuity, quality assurance, and user support records.
We also store relevant chat logs and your submitted content (e.g., meal logs/photos) to provide continuity and improve your experience.
You can request deletion of call transcripts and meal photos as described in our Privacy Policy, noting we may retain certain billing and legal records where required.
AI guidance may use:
information you provide (goals, preferences, allergies, meal entries, photos)
your account profile details (if you’ve entered them)
past interactions (e.g., prior chats/transcripts) to maintain continuity
We aim to use the minimum necessary information to provide a helpful experience.
To protect users, the AI is designed to refuse or limit requests involving:
medical diagnosis or treatment instructions
dangerous dieting behaviours or eating disorder–related content
instructions that could cause harm
illegal activities, harassment, or abusive content
emergency situations (it will direct you to emergency services)
If the AI can’t safely answer, it will provide safer alternatives or recommend appropriate professional support.
We may use trusted third-party service providers to operate the Platform (e.g., hosting, messaging/telephony, transcription, payment processing). Some providers may process data outside Australia.
We take reasonable steps to select reputable providers and apply safeguards appropriate to the service.
AI systems evolve. We may update:
how AI responds
safety filters and refusal behaviour
the way we personalise guidance
features and user controls
When changes are significant, we will update this policy and adjust in-app notices where practical.
You can:
choose what information you share
request deletion of transcripts/photos (per Privacy Policy)
stop using AI features and seek human clinical advice where appropriate
