Expert nutrition, built by a family
The Diet Science started with a problem we kept seeing from two very different angles. Puja saw clients who knew exactly what to eat and still couldn't stay consistent between appointments. Jas saw AI systems that could hold context indefinitely but had nothing useful to say about nutrition. Putting the two together is the whole idea.
We're an Australian company. Our guidance is built around the Australian Dietary Guidelines and the NHMRC Nutrient Reference Values, not whatever is trending overseas. The AI handles the everyday questions — what to order, how to hit your protein target, what to do after a bad week — and a real nutritionist handles the things software shouldn't.
Puja Matharu
Puja Matharu is an Australian certified nutritionist and co-founder of The Diet Science. She works with clients on metabolic health, women's health and sustainable weight management.
Puja works with clients on metabolic health, women's health through perimenopause and menopause, insulin resistance and sustainable weight management. She writes every guide and article on this site, and reviews the nutrition logic behind the AI before it ships.
Read her writing on menopause nutrition, metabolic health and why generic diet plans fail.
Jas Matharu
Jas Matharu is an AI engineer and co-founder of The Diet Science, where he builds the AI nutritionist that supports clients between consultations.
Jas built the AI nutritionist — the chat, the voice check-in calls, the photo food logging and the memory that lets it remember your plan instead of asking you to repeat it. His rule for the product: it must never invent a nutrition claim it can't trace back to a source.
What we actually do
Two things, deliberately kept separate.
- An AI nutritionist, available all the time. Chat or call it, log meals by voice or photo, get a personalised weekly food plan, and get checked on when you go quiet. It knows your profile, your goals and your history.
- A human nutritionist, when it matters. Book a consultation with Puja for the things that need judgement — a clinical history, a plan that isn't working, or a goal you want mapped out properly.
Everything we publish is free to read: our nutrition guides, our articles, and our calculators. If you want the app, pricing is here.
How we handle health advice
We're clear about the line. The Diet Science provides general nutrition guidance and education — not medical nutrition therapy, diagnosis or treatment. If you have a medical condition, we'll tell you to see your GP or an Accredited Practising Dietitian, and we say so on every guide. Our full position is in the health disclaimer, and how the AI works is documented in our AI transparency policy.
